Academic and Educational Evaluations
TESTING SERVICES
Academic and educational evaluations are comprehensive assessments designed to understand how a student learns, where they may be struggling, and how best to support their academic success. These evaluations provide an in-depth look at cognitive functioning, academic achievement, and related factors that impact learning and classroom performance.
Key components include cognitive functioning, academic achievement, executive functioning and attention, social-emotional and behavioral functioning, and school observation (if requested).
Academic and Educational Evaluations are best suited for:
-
Gifted Testing is a specialized assessment used to identify children and adolescents with advanced intellectual abilities or unique learning profiles. These evaluations provide insight into a child’s cognitive strengths and help guide educational planning, school placement, and enrichment opportunities.
-
Mainly for children and adolescents who are both gifted and experience learning, emotional, behavioral, or developmental challenges. These students tend to go unrecognized or misunderstood in traditional academic settings as their strengths mask their challenges. A 2e evaluation combines gifted testing with additional testing to help identify both strengths and challenges and identify any specific learning difficulties.
-
Learning disability evaluations are appropriate if a child or adolescent seem to struggle with reading, spelling or math. These types of evaluations can assess other forms of learning disabilities such as dyslexia which can often impact academic performance.
-
Standardized testing can be a significant barrier for individuals with learning differences, ADHD, anxiety, or other conditions that may impact test performance. A testing accommodations evaluation can help provide documentation needed to request appropriate support on exams such as the SAT, ACT, GRE, MCAT, and more, including accommodations for college.
-
There are several independent and private schools that may require a specific type of evaluation as part of their admissions process which may include cognitive and academic testing.
-
Many children and tends experience occasional inattention, impulsiveness, or hyperactivity- but when these behaviors are persistent and interfere with daily life, a thorough ADHD assessment can provide clarity and direction. At our practice, we offer comprehensive evaluations to determine whether your child meets criteria for Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and to identify any co-occurring challenges that may contribute to attention or behavior difficulties.
What to expect
Depending on the type of the assessment, some may take two hours while others may require more testing time (e.g., 6-8 hours). At the end of the process, you will receive a detailed report that includes your child’s strengths, challenges, a personalized recommendation, strategies at home and even recommendations for individualized education program (IEP) supports and 504 Plan accommodations, or guidance on whether a specific school placement might better meet your child’s needs.
